Section of Animal Physiology and Immunology

The employees of the Section of Animal Physiology and Immunology (OFIŽ) are dedicated to research and scientific education of students in the comprehensive understanding of the functions of animal organisms in both health and disease. Thanks to collaboration with various research institutions in the Czech Republic (especially with the Institute of Biophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences) and abroad (such as the Karolinska Institute, Sweden), we cover a wide range of research topics that integrate modern methodological approaches, from the molecular level through cellular, tissue, and organ levels to the behavior of the whole organism.

Research at our department is focused on three main directions:

  1. Understanding the signaling pathways of biologically significant molecules,
  2. Vertebrate and invertebrate immunology, and
  3. Behavioral physiology.

We prepare students of various academic programs, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, for careers in cutting-edge basic and applied biomedical research, as well as in veterinary-oriented research or clinical work, both domestically and abroad. Biology education students are trained in scientific methodology essential for their teaching practice
