Loschmidt laboratories
The mission of our department is to conduct interdisciplinary research in the field of protein engineering and synthetic biology. We wish to understand the structural and functional relationships of bacterial enzymes and enhance their practical properties for biotechnological applications in bioremediation, biocatalysis, and biosensing. We will consistently strive to publish our findings in reputable scientific journals, develop software tools and lab-on-chips, and transfer results to practice.
The key components of our daily activities include collaboration between experimentalists and theoreticians, solidarity among the laboratory team, and mentoring of young colleagues — all while maintaining a friendly and creative working environment to honor the name of Jan Josef Loschmidt. Jana Josefa Loschmidta. We provide education in Microbiology and Molecular Biotechnology at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.
Our scientific and pedagogical activity is supported by Alfred Bader, founder of the world's largest supplier of chemicals for research purposes, Sigma-Aldrich. We are recipients of prestigious awards from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBO) and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) in the United States.
