Earth Day with our participation
Earth Day has been celebrated every year on April 22 since 1970. This year's theme was Cereals - the well-known and the less -known ones.
On Saturday, various games, quizzes and crafting activities were organized for children and adults at the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science. Visitors not only had the opportunity to see different cereals, but also to try their hand at sowing and grinding. A tasting event was also available.
The Section of Experimental Plant Biology's employees showcased a demonstration of cereal starch grains using a polarizing microscope. The seemingly ordinary grains revealed an unexpected variety of shapes and colors.
In addition to our employees, volunteers from the Botanical Garden, the Institute of Geological Sciences, the Institute of Chemistry and the Association of Naturalists of the Faculty of Science of the MU took part in the organization of Earth Day. The P. Křížkovského Gymnasium and ZUŠ z. s. and the Zalejme.cz initiative, promoting tree watering, were the external partners. The event had over 500 visitors in total.
